In Memoriam - Dr. Cleofe M. Bacuñgan

    Our beloved  former PSHS Director, Dr. Cleofe M. Bacuñgan passed away April 20, 2014. Wake will be at the Bacuñgan Hall (ASTB) at the PSHS, Agham Rd., QC, starting at 1pm today, April 21 up to April 25 6am. Funeral will be on April 25, after the 8am mass, at the Church of the Risen Lord at the UP campus, at Loyola Marikina.

    Dr Bacuñgan helped shape the lives of thousands of Pisay graduates. Her dedication to her work and to the school will always be remembered. 

    Our condolences to her bereaved family. She sure picked a wonderful time to claim Jesus' promise of an eternal life when she left us on Easter morning.

    You will be missed, Dr Bacuñgan.

    We will always be thankful for Dra. Bacuñgan’s  devotion to PSHS, serving as its director for almost 2 decades.   Even in her retirement, she continued to be active in the PSHS Foundation, serving as an inspiration to the community of alumni and parents to continue to support PSHS.  

    I recall when we visited her a few years back, how she still remembered what batch we were (30+ years after we graduated) and even had a few anecdotes to share from our high school days.  That is Dra. Bacungan, she may have always projected a disciplinarian image, but she was also very much a caring administrator.

    To the Bacuñgan family, please accept my most heartfelt sympathies for your loss.

    An institution of PSHS has passed away physically but her legacy will continue to live on through the lives of those she touched with her noble life - and such we are. Perfectly applicable to Dra Bacs is the ode Horace wrote more than 2 millenia ago:  I have built a monument more lasting than bronze and higher than the royal peaks of pyramids, which neither the rain can corrode nor the powerless South Wind, the innumerable succession of years, and the flight of time destroy. I will not wholly die...and a great part of me will resist the powers of Hades. We represent those monuments now, batchmates of '84 and fellow Pisay alums who were touched by Dragon Bacs - let's make Dra Bacs even more proud than she already is with us!

    Thank you to Dra Bacungan. Pisay students are very fortunate to have teachers and administrators who instill in us the love for science, and the example of service through one's given profession. It is a pity that we could not celebrate the 50th anniversary with Dra Bacungan but she will continue to watch over us and guide us, as we try to put science at the service of society. Maraming salamat po.
